Thermometer Exchange

Exchange your mercury-containing thermometer
for a FREE digital thermometer!

Delhi Township cares about you and your future! Mercury has been recognized as one of the primary pollutants of concern for Michigan. In fact, mercury contamination has resulted in the Michigan Department of Community Health issuing state-wide fish consumption advisories.

Digital thermometers are available at the Delhi Wastewater Treatment Plant, Fire Department, Parks and Recreation Department and the Treasurer's Department.

Please bring your mercury-containing thermometer in sealed double-bagged "ziploc" type plastic bags and ask to exchange it. You will be given a digital thermometer. That’s it – a pretty easy way to help your environment! If you have any questions please call 699-3873.

Latex Paint Disposal Hints

Latex paint can be thrown in the regular trash, but it must be SOLID.  To solidify latex paint, you must:

  • remove the lid

  • add enough cat litter to the paint to absorb all of the liquid

  • make sure the cat litter is mixed down to the bottom of the can

  • leave the lid off, place the paint can in a sunny location, out of the reach of children and pets, and let it sit until it hardens

  • once the paint/cat litter mixture is hard, it can be thrown in the trash

If you have a full can of paint, simply take a box and line it with a trash bag.  Solidify half the paint with cat litter in the box and solidify the remaining paint with cat litter right in the can, following the directions above.
